There is an inner and outer section to the Ploce Gate.
The inner section of the Ploce gate used to be called The Gate of Saint Luka previously.
Doors of the inner section are quite small and made in Roman fashion. Saint Blaise’s head is carved on top of these. He was the famous patron of Dubrovnik.
The outer section has the Revelin Fortress.
There used to be a rivalry between Dubrovnik and its neighboring town on the Adriatic coast back in history, for they all competed in trade. These were Venice, Dubrovnik, Genoa, and Ancona. Due to this, the gates were kept closed for the town’s welfare. But nowadays, the gate is always open to inviting its countless visitors.
Here along with the inner and outer section, the gate also has a stone bridge. Previously, it used to be a wooden bridge which was pulled up to prevent I wanted visitors from entering the Ploce Gate and the city. But later on, this was replaced by a beautiful stone bridge.
