The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb is located in the Novi Zagreb district, which means the modern part of the city, after the two main collections in the city centre have been united in this beautiful new museum. As you will see once you enter the museum, the artworks come from the New Tendencies movement, founded exactly in the museum during the turmoil of the Sixties. However, it is not only this art movement that characterizes the museum. It contains works of art from all over the world, with a focus on Europe and East countries. It has become the biggest museum in the country thanks to its prestigious artworks and the many visitors that each year decide to stop by and admire the collection.   • The building. After the government decided to move the museum in the new part of the city, it was chosen one project among 85: the architect Igor Franic and its minimal and modern structure won the competition.

  • And more modern works… As it is the museum of contemporary art, of course, it preserves also more modern woks, as for example Marina Abramovic’s works and Rafael Soto’s paintings.
  • The statue. Before entering the museum, you will see a metal sculpture. It is called ‘Test Site’ and it was sculptured by Carsten Holler.
